Grand Canyon North Rim Reopening October 2025
Grand Canyon North Rim Partial Reopening — October 1, 2025
Beginning October 1, 2025, Grand Canyon National Park will partially reopen select areas of the North Rim following the Dragon Bravo Fire.
What’s Open
Highway 67 to the W1 road (around mile marker 11)
Cape Royal Road, including access to Point Imperial and Cape Royal
Fire Point and Swamp Ridge
These areas are open daily from official sunrise to official sunset through November 30, 2025, or until the first major snowfall. Overnight use is only permitted at Swamp Point and Fire Point.
What’s Closed
The North Kaibab Trail remains closed due to damage and rockfalls along its upper section. Assessments are ongoing.
All other rim based trails are subject to changing conditions. For current status, check the official NPS page: North Rim Status Updates.
Safety Reminders
Visitors should plan carefully before traveling to the North Rim:
Hazards include standing dead trees, flash flooding risks, and active recovery operations.
No services are available — no fuel, no power, no running water, no cell service.
Visitors must be fully self-sufficient, bringing food, water, and supplies.
Emergency response is extremely limited and response times may be significantly delayed.
If you are also visiting during the federal shutdown, see our complete guide on what’s open, what’s closed, and how to plan your trip: Grand Canyon Shutdown Guide.
Final Thoughts
The North Rim offers some of the most dramatic viewpoints in Grand Canyon National Park. With this partial reopening, visitors once again have the opportunity to enjoy Cape Royal, Point Imperial, and remote areas like Swamp Ridge. Plan ahead, travel safely, and respect closures to help protect the landscape during recovery.
